What the flows mean for Bitcoin
When an ETF records net inflows, authorized participants create new shares and the issuer typically buys bitcoin (or ether) for the fund. Net outflows work the other way and can add selling pressure to the spot market. A single day says little: what matters is the direction over several weeks. The September run of inflows was followed by the largest outflow day since June on October 7, as Treasury yields rose and markets started to price a tighter Fed. Three signals we watch on this page:
- Streaks: five or more straight sessions of outflows usually coincide with risk-off phases. Ether ETFs are on a nine-session streak.
- IBIT vs. the rest: BlackRock's fund attracts the most long-term allocators; when IBIT holds steady while smaller funds bleed, selling is more likely tactical.
- Weekly size vs. the average: a week beyond ±1 billion is significant for Bitcoin ETFs; beyond ±500 million for Ether ETFs.

How we collect the data
We take daily net flows from Farside Investors (Bitcoin) and Farside Investors (Ether), which compile issuer-reported holdings and creations/redemptions. We cross-check large moves with issuer websites (for example iShares IBIT) and SoSoValue. Weekly and monthly totals, streaks and comparisons on this page are calculated by BullishStation. Some issuers report late; a figure of 0.0 can be revised the next day.
FAQ
What are Bitcoin ETF flows?
The net amount of money entering (inflows) or leaving (outflows) US spot Bitcoin ETFs on a given day, measured in US dollars.
When are Bitcoin ETF flows published?
Issuers report after the US market close. Aggregators such as Farside usually complete the table in the evening, US Eastern time, or the next morning in Europe. This page is updated each trading day.
Which Bitcoin ETF has the most inflows?
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), with about 65.7 billion dollars of cumulative net inflows since January 2024.
Why does GBTC show negative cumulative flows?
GBTC was a closed-end trust holding billions in bitcoin before it converted to an ETF in January 2024. Since then, investors have moved out of it toward cheaper funds, so its cumulative flow is negative.
Do ETF outflows make Bitcoin's price fall?
They can add selling pressure, but price depends on many other buyers and sellers. Sustained outflows over several weeks matter more than one day.
Are Ether ETF flows tracked the same way?
Yes. US spot Ether ETFs launched in July 2024 and report daily in the same way. Their flows are smaller and more volatile than Bitcoin ETF flows.
